Homemade Easter Egg Dye

Making your own egg dye can be a very rewarding experience, especially when you can share in the creativity with your children!

Here is the basic recipe for each color you choose to make (adapted from McCormick):

1/2 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon vinegar
10 to 20 drops food color

1. For each color, mix the above ingredients in a cup to achieve your desired color.  McCormick has a Color Creator available HERE if you would like to be creative with your color mixing.

2. You will repeat the same ingredients and steps for each additional color.

3. Dip your eggs in the dye for about 5 minutes.  Use a slotted spoon or wire egg holder to add and remove eggs from the dye.

Decorating Ideas:

1. Draw on the eggs with a white crayon before dying.

2. Mix 1/4 cup boiling water, 1 teaspoon vinegar, 1/8 teaspoon oil and 4 to 8 drops food color in a shallow bowl.  Gently roll egg in the mixture for 30 seconds then transfer to a second color and repeat the process.  Allow the egg to dry completely, making sure to wipe away any excess oil with a paper towel after they are dry.
